Mandela Day: The Haven Night Shelter

This year, for Mandela Day, Damian and Shanet organised for us to make sanwiches fro the residents of The Haven Night Shelter – Kensington. We thought this would be a good project, as we could encourage people who would normally not get involved to lend a hand and help feed some people in need.

We set up an assembly line at the Rover Den, with rovers assigned to buttering the bread, spreading jam or peanut butter and packaging. We were so efficient, that we actually ran out of supplies quite quickly, and decided to use some extra personal funds to make a run to the nearby shops to get even more ingredients. It was really fun, and we are glad we had the opportunity to help. Once our budget is in the green, we hope to be able to make this a much more regular contribution to The Haven Night Shelter.
