BP SUNDAY CELEBRATIONS “Proud to be a Scout”

On the 22nd of February Scouts all over the World will be celebrating the birthday of our founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell.

In founding the movement, Lord Baden-Powell believed that the Scout Method would go far to replace fear with compassion, and misunderstanding with sympathy. He felt that by training and empowering young people to expand their horizons and learn by doing, in an atmosphere of kindness and encouragement, instead of one of fear and anger, we could all work to leave this world a better place than how we found it. Today, all around the world, the Scout Movement continues to create positive change.

On B-P Sunday thousands of children, youth and adult leaders will get together to have fun, talk about their Scouting Adventures and to receive recognition for their effort, contributions and achievements throughout the year. Some of the events that will be taking place include:

The North West Region will be celebrating Lord B-P’s birthday over the weekend at a Regional camp in Rustenburg (Phokeng). The event kicks off at 14h00.

In the Western Cape Scouts and Scouters will enjoy a picnic at the Sea Scout Base at Zandvlei in Muizenberg. Awards will be handed out to members who have gone above and beyond to serve others. The event starts at 13h00. The National Office will be there to hand out the Adult Recruitment Kits to Groups and Districts and train the scouters on the use of these.

Next week Wednesday is the 22nd of February and therefore we remind and ask our Scouting members to make a splash and represent our Movement proudly by wearing their SCOUTS South Africa uniform to work and / or school for the day. Let’s all be proud to be a Scout and represent the Movement Baden Powell started over 100 years ago! Best wishes to you all a great day on Sunday, let’s make B-P proud!

What is your Group, Troop or Pack doing to celebrating B-P’s Birthday? Share it with us on info@scouts.org.za with some pictures of your events.

Yours in Scouting
